I just remember growing up noticing quite a bunch of my friends had lice. They had to get their head shaved or started using different hair products etc. One time when I was really young we had a representitive come to our school to talk to us about lice o_o buut yeah, I've luckily never had it.
I had it when I was young too but luckily I never had to shave my hair off.
I just got the shampoo whacked on my head. It was a traumatic time. Shampoo went all in my eyes, stung like hell, thought I was dying haha

Aww! That sounds really painful. That shampoo smells disgusting too. I had the shampoo, but it wasn't killing the eggs so we eventually resorted to shaving my head.
I didn't bother hiding it at all. I was 8, so I didn't get teased about it. At least not to my face. My younger sister wore a hat the whole time, though.
& regarding Kris' post: my mum used to be a hairdresser & she would refuse to cut people's hair who had lice. I think it's because you put yourself & other clients at risk for getting lice.
I had it when I was younger because the little girl I played with, her parents failed to tell my mom their family had them. They just let me get them. -_-'
I got it when I was 7. I didn't have to shave my hair [THANK GOD - I was just recovering from a detrimental haircut..] but I do remember leaning over a sink for an hour with my mum getting the damn things out.
Ugh, I've had lice about four times, but it was more like they didn't get rid of them until the forth time around. The first time was last April and dear god that was one of the most painful and earth shattering thing I have ever had to go through. They were just every where, underneath my ears, on top of my head, below the rim of my neck. Ahh, I don't want to relive it.
I did have to get a hair cut, but through each of the lice incidents I begged my mom to shave my head, but she wouldn't budge. I still don't sleep with a certain blanket or sleep in the room because of the lice epidemic. o.O
