Post subject: Legality & Opinions on Drugs

I was just posting in another topic about drugs and I thought I might as well make this topic since I don't know that there is one of this nature.

Personally I think that all drugs should be legalized but still be controlled to a degree just like cigarettes and alcohol. Why? If anyone remembers the story of Al Capone (scarface) it goes something like this. The USA illegalized alcohol but people wanted alcohol, creating a market for people to make some serious cash, these people were of course fairly shady and considered themselves above the law. In the end alcohol was legalized again.

The point is if there is no market for the product, no need to make a deal you take the dealers out of the equation and without the dealers you subvert the income of these shady characters.

I just overall think that my government could generate some extra money off of this and put it to better use than these dealers.

I don't like drugs, never really have and even legalized I probably wouldn't do anything.

I pretty much share the same opinion. I don't do drugs, nor do I think I ever will, but I do think that drugs should be regulated if they were legalised, just so that they would be "safe" (not spiked with something else, etc.) It's a person's choice to do drugs, so why not make tons of money off of it?

I think they're fine the way they are, alcohol is a lot less damaging then pretty much any drug banned. People will always complain no matter what way you have it.

I have a very mixed opinion on this one. Part of me believes it should all just be legalized so it can be controlled to some extent but at the same time it could very well lead to more younger individuals with addictions. There is also the possibility it could cut down on as many shady people lacing drugs, downside...Will more pharmacies etc end up getting held up more often because someone needs there fix but cannot afford it? Then again you could still have the people on the street with grow ops etc.. Honestly its kind of like a double edged sword it could have its upsides but like with anything many downsides.

I can almost say for certain that it being legalized at and regulated to where there are steep penalties for selling it without a license, selling it to minors, etc. Would reduce the amount of "younger individuals" with it. Especially if walmart had everyday low prices [Wink]

Do you honestly think today's drug dealer's give a damn who they sell drugs to? No matter how old the customers are they are screwed if they get busted. Walmart cashiers on the other hand sometimes won't even sell my mom food without seeing some ID. Of course as I said the fact that nobody over 18 would need a dealer the few dealers that there would be would be high school kids with fake IDs or who knew a source that wouldn't card them.
