Post subject: Mystery of Humanity

This is a pretty hard topic to discuss but I would like to know what other people think about the following..

Where do we actually come from?
Why are we here?
What is religion - is it just a way to comfort ourselves?
Why are we never completley satisfied?
Why do we kill each other?
Why do we kill ourselves?
Why do we destroy our planet?

Putting it in perspective through the economic standpoint, our wants are endless, but resources are not.

But even if this were not the case, we're never completely satisfied because we're conscious beings.

We can and desire it.

As George Carlin put it, the planet's fine. We're fucked.

Dictionary.com: "Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe."

Religions often have doctrines, rituals, et cetera to accompany, but those features alone do not necessarily a religion make.

Comfort is a reason why many people adhere to the faith they do, whether solely or in conjunction with other reasons.

Of course, no-one is 100% certain, and such a level of certainty would be an absurd and impossible standard to achieve, but science has its empirical explanation, and people have their faiths, which are not nearly as reliable or sound as the explanation provided by science, for obvious reasons, but are explanations nonetheless.

Our mothers

Because we went to this place, or were born here and never left

Yes

Kris wrote:

Because living would have no meaning otherwise

Kris wrote:
Why do we kill each other?

Because we can and want to

Kris wrote:
Why do we kill ourselves?

Because that can be the easyest way out

Kris wrote:

We don't realise we do....

We're atrophic, so primal content cannot ever be achieved. Our bodies devour constantly. Consciously though, some of us only ask for peace of mind.

Nice avatar by the way. Lust's an interesting humunculus.

I always think about this philosophic stuff before I sleep. I preticulurly wonder about the mysteries of death and the afterlife.
