So I've been looking for a job for a while. No one seems to want to hire me because I'm leaving for college at the end of the summer.
So my mom keeps telling me to lie to them. To tell them that I can work any time and that I have more experience than I really do. I have trouble with this because I really don't like to lie.
It may not be totally right, but getting a job these days can be a TOUGH thing. Sometimes you have to stretch the truth in order to get into a position. Alot of places have extremely tough criteria, simply trying to weed out those who would slack off, or leave on a whim. Just let them know with enough notice when you will be leaving, but dont bring it up right when you are hired. Why WOULD they want to hire you if you might not be coming back? But if you get the job, and then see if you can work there when you are home from college... you have a better shot at staying employed.
Hm, this is difficult. I mean, obviously it's better if you tell the truth but as Joe said, getting a job can be really tough. Some employers will refuse to even consider you if you do not have the appropriate experience they are looking for.
Personally, I wouldn't lie because I'm an honest person. I don't know, I guess I will just feel really guilty if I lie and it'll be on my mind every single time I go to work.
Yes, you can exaggerate the truth a bit but I wouldn't really recommend a full blown lie because if you get caught, that may not only land you unemployed but will also taint your reputation for any future jobs you may wish to have.
