Okay. I'm doing a school research paper and this is my topic. I think the topic's interesting and I just want to see people's views on it. I'm not going to plagiarize your thoughts lmao. I already have articles and stuff I have to include.
Some things I found out about what is thought of the SATs:
It's racially biased.
It's biased on affluence.
It doesn't measure anything but test-taking skills.
But people believe that the new SAT is more accurate than the old one... This one has essay-writing and a LOT on sentence structure. The old one was mostly analogies, etc. Both have math of course.
What do you think? I would like it eliminated before my junior year. xD
I'd like to find out how the SATs are racially biased.
Isn't a pretty important part of College/University taking tests? So if it tests that, thumbs up.
You live the state and you have never heard of the SATs?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAT Read it. It will tell you most everything you need to know. It does say something about a biad towards white males doen't give any reason though.
SATS should stay. Up here in Canada (BC) They are getting rid of testing (not all together). They are replacing it with portfolios. We have to get 6 core aspects and then 30 choice aspects. Aaumm yea, I can't really explain the whole thing. But it's basically documenting your whole high school life. (even outside of school).
They are doing this because they think testing doesnt represent enough of how you will suceed in real life. It doesnt seem to be going so well. It's so unorgainzed, and a waste of time when we could be using it in other places.
It is hard to please everyones learning styles remember. The people that think it is biased are the ones that are kinesthetic learners, and need a more hands on approach to learning.
So yea, you really can't define it as biased when people themselves that are taking it are biased.
There is a vast difference between being timed and pressured on something you had no beforehand information, and how you will work / do work in real life / normal schoolwork. They do not reflect true ability.
You know somewhat of what is going to be on it they have all of those prep books. Part of life is doing things on deadlines you have to be ready to take it when it is.

Well I was just surprised because that is the standard exam to get into and American college or university. Not as many people take them up here because you don't need to get into a Canadian school.
