Post subject: Sexual Orientation

It's a natural part of life to have sexual feelings. As people pass from childhood, through adolescence, to adulthood, their sexual feelings develop and change.

Adolescence Is a Time of Change

During the teen years, sexual feelings are awakened in new ways because of the hormonal and physical changes of puberty. These changes involve both the body and the mind, and teens may wonder about new — and often intense — sexual feelings.

There are different kinds of sexual orientations.

Heterosexual-
People who are heterosexual are romantically and physically attracted to members of the opposite sex: Heterosexual males are attracted to females, and heterosexual females are attracted to males. Heterosexuals are sometimes called "straight."

Homosexual-
People who are homosexual are romantically and physically attracted to people of the same sex: Females who are attracted to other females are lesbian; males who are attracted to other males are often known as gay. (The term gay is sometimes also used to describe homosexual individuals of either gender.)

Bisexual-
People who are bisexual are romantically and physically attracted to members of both sexes.

Asexual
An asexual is someone who does not experience sexual attraction. Instead they feel a desire to get to know someone, to get close to them in whatever way works best for them. Communication, closeness, fun, humor, excitement and trust all happen just as much in sexual relationships as in nonsexual ones.

Teens — both guys and girls — often find themselves having sexual thoughts and attractions. For some, these feelings and thoughts can be intense — and even confusing or disturbing. That may be especially true for people who are having romantic or sexual thoughts about someone who is the same sex they are. "What does that mean," they might think. "Am I gay?"

Thinking sexually about both the same sex and the opposite sex is quite common as people sort through their emerging sexual feelings. This type of imagining about people of the same or opposite sex doesn't necessarily mean that a person fits into a particular type of sexual orientation.

Some teens may also experiment with sexual experiences, including those with members of the same sex, during the years they are exploring their own sexuality. These experiences, by themselves, do not necessarily mean that a person is gay or straight.

What is a healthy relationship?
A healthy relationship is one in which both individuals can communicate openly and honestly. Friends/boyfriends/girlfriends/spouses are able to share feelings, discuss problems, and support one another. THERE IS NO ROOM FOR FEAR IN A HEALTHY FRIENDSHIP!

I think you should add something about asexuality in there. There are some people who can't figure out why they aren't attracted to any gender & it may be because they are asexual, but many people never even think about it. But, good post. [Smile]

Well, yes, obviously you're not asexual and therefore cannot understand how people won't look at someone and see them as sexually attractive.

I was asexual for quite a while

I know this will sound weird but I had at least 3 crushes on girls a year most of my life and then in 7th grade a girl sort of dragged me to the guidance counselor's office because the entire school started picking on her because I thought she was cute....after that I have never had a crush...I just fall in love with whoever comes to me...but for a while I was flat out not interested in anyone or anything, mostly because nothing good ever came of love.

I am as straight as the straightest nail in the box. XD Even if I am a tomboy, I really always liked hanging out with guys and talking to them. And all my crushes were all guys, guys, and more guys.

I believe this is a very informative post. You did a good job, especially after the addition of introducing asexuality to the forums. It looks like it has already taught a member something, which means you did well. Nice work. This thread is fantastic for reference.
